(5-MONTH REVIEW)
My review of the Gungnir – Allrounder bar after purchasing back in July. Ordered on July 4th and received it on July 10th. Extremely fast shipping with great packaging from Gungnir especially want to highlight this since it is being shipped from Norway.
There’s a lot of videos online already talking about the crazy amounts of weight that the collars can hold and still being usable – the most crazy and ridiculous one being the bar holding a weight with a car. Here’s a link to check it out

Having this barbell since July on average I’ve done at least 50 drops minimum with this bar between deadlifts and cleans. (Honestly this is lowballing the number as have multiple people use this bar when people come over to workout)
Today on 11/26/22 after an amazing Thanksgiving with friends and family, we did our version of a Turkey Trot, however instead of running we did some lifting. We have dropped this collarless bar over 1000 times and not once have we had an issue.

My home-gym community favorite: It has just become the “Go-to” bar in my home gym for both myself and everyone who comes over. It’s a little silly but people just got used to picking up this bar and lifting with it for every workout. When I asked my friends about it, the little small quality of life that comes with never worrying about collars is something you really become used to and love. Another thing that everyone agrees with is that it is a just a gorgeous bar. I don’t have any electroless nickel bars except this one, so it really stands out. My picture doesn’t do it justice, since the bar is so long you can’t really catch the color, but I took a close of up the sleeves.
Whip: I’m not an expert in this area and really this is my only bar that has it. Here is google’s definition: Bar Whip is the oscillation that occurs when the bar changes directions quickly. It occurs because modern barbell is created to be somewhat elastic. This makes it possible for bars to bend and 'whip' when there is heavy enough load on the ends of the barbell. On the official website spec sheet, it says “classic” I have no idea what it means, but here is a picture with 415 pounds held up in the middle with a Kleva Jack. (The absolute best deadlift jack in existence – grab one from here: https://klevabuilt.com/collections/all )
Knurling – It’s extremely passive. I think the comment that resonated between my group of friends using the bar has been “It’s more passive than a nail filer.” Knurling is subjective, some people like it sharper and enjoy the sharp mountain knurling and there are more passive takes like Hill and Mountain knurling. It’s the same as looking at different switches for a keyboard, linear vs tactile vs clicky. People just have different tastes in things.
I’ll go out and say I think the most passive knurling I like to go is the Rogue Ohio bar, and the Allrounder is smooth when compared to the Ohio bar. However, with some of my friends who are newer to lifting and don’t like any aggressive knurling, this is perfect for them. Gluck stated bar had different knurling middle and outside, this kind of blew my mind because they honestly felt the exact same and I was surprised to see that they are truly different.

Gungnir’s Dumbler knurling for reference - Personally I thought the Dumbler knurling is my preference. Let’s talk about the “Slop” that is possible on the bar. It happens if the plates are not perfect fit with the Slidelock collars: Here is a perfect fit:
Here is the Slidelock not having a perfect fit and you see the little edge where it has some room, and so when you’re lifting your plates can move back and forth in the tiny space. Truthfully – it’s all up to you how annoying you find it.
Here is something that has annoyed everyone – counting on the tolerance and tightness of your plates, your plates can move a little over the Slidelock and get stuck. The easy fix was just sticking a light change plate so it would never happen. This isn’t Gungnir’s nor the bar’s fault, just something that can happen though.
Price of the bar: The 15kg version is $669 and 20kg version being $699 Who would I recommend this to? Everyone - I love the bar. It’s phenomenal. With over 1000+ drops and more to come, it’s a high-quality product that has become my favorite as well as everyone else who comes over and works out in my basement gym. It’s the most picked and used bar even though I have multiple to choose from. I’m a huge fan of Gungnir as a company – they pushed for innovation and made a marvelous product. They stand by their products having a lifetime warranty. Not only that, constantly pushing the limits to not just tell you, but show you multiple demonstrations of how strong the Slidelock mechanism is.
The icing is that, aesthetically, the craftsmanship, machining of the sleeves, it’s a work of art. Who would I not recommend this to? People who want aggressive knurling. If you are looking for a specific Olympic or Powerlifting specific for that style, there are better bars for the price. People on a budget – It’s a luxury bar and you can get a great budget bar for half the price If you’re going to buy it use Gluck’s affiliate link. (I don’t have one)
